Application

Measures long-term selective attention and concentration and general ability.
DAUF identifies changes in attentional performance in terms of reaction speed and accuracy in persistently demanding situations. The measurement of sustained attention captures aspects of general ability and willingness to achieve. It also yields information about the respondent’s resilience. The test is used to assess suitability for positions with safety-related requirements (safety assessment) and in sports psychology. It is used in clinical neuropsychology to identify deficits and verify the success of treatment.

Administration

Depending on the test form, a series of either five or seven triangles appears on the screen; the rows are either regularly or irregularly spaced. Some of these triangles point upwards and some point downwards. The respondent must press a button when either two (and only two) or three (and only three) of the triangles point downwards.

Test forms

S1: Clinical Form 1 with five triangles (2∇) in regular jumps.
S2: Clinical Form 2 with five triangles (2∇) in irregular jumps.
S3: Normal form with seven triangles (3∇) in irregular jumps.

Scoring

The following main variables are scored:

  • Number correct: The total number of correct reactions within the set time – measure of the accuracy with which the test has been worked.
  • Mean time correct: Average reaction time (in seconds) where the answer was correct.

1 The “Speed/Accuracy” chart provides a simple overview of the respondent’s way of working. For example, it is easy to see from the chart whether a fast working speed is at the expense of accuracy.
