INT Inventory for testing cognitive capabilities

G. Schuhfried

Measures general cognitive ability and specific performance indicators for logical reasoning, verbal reasoning, and numerical reasoning.

The main areas of application of the INT are the areas of staff & management assessments, jobs & career placement, safety & manufacturing, and academic testing.

In the subtest Logical Reasoning the respondent’s task is to select a field from an item with nine fields that does not follow the same rules as the other eight fields.

In the subtest Numerical Ability the respondent is shown equations without any arithmetical signs. The respondent's task is to select the arithmetical signs so that the equation is correct.

The task in the Verbal Ability subtest is to correctly recognize and apply lexical relations.

Test forms

There is one test form with three subtests for measuring logical reasoning, verbal reasoning, and numerical reasoning.

The following main variables are scored:

General cognitive ability: A measure for the ability to recognize patterns, understand implications, and to deduce logical inferences from figurative, verbal or numerical item material.

Logical reasoning: A measure of the ability to solve new problems using inductive thinking processes.

Verbal reasoning: A measure for the ability to understand the meaning of words and their underlying concepts, to relate them to one another, and to draw conclusions from them.

Numerical reasoning: The knowledge of basic arithmetical operations as well as the ability to derive mathematical solutions from them.

The main variables are calculated as factor scores based on the results of confirmatory factor analyses. In addition, the corresponding norm-referenced score including the confidence interval is also reported.
