WSP-2 Vienna Personality Inventory for Students

Assesses behaviors and attitudes relevant to successful progress in and completion of a university course.
The WSP-2 is a personality questionnaire based on the respondent’s self-assessment; it is intended primarily for use in one-to-one counseling. The inventory is also used in course entry testing (academic testing) to collect additional information relevant to academic success. The assessment of personality characteristics is an important supplement to the testing of cognitive abilities when the aim is to predict academic performance or success at work. This test yields self-assessments on the following scales: Organization, Accuracy and Conscientiousness, Independence and Initiative, Realistic Self-assessment, Motivation, Frustration Tolerance, Social Competence, Emotional Competence and Self-confidence.


Respondents indicate the extent to which particular statements apply to them, using a four-point answer scale. The previous answer can be corrected once.

The following main variables are scored:

  • Organization: Measure of the efficient handling of tasks and activities, e.g. through good time management or careful planning of work.
  • Accuracy and conscientiousness: The extent to which the respondent’s working style is conscientiousness and accurate.
  • Autonomy and initiative: The extent to which, for example, solution pathways and ideas are devised autonomously.
  • Realistic self-assessment: Measure of the realistic assessment of one’s own weaknesses, strengths and achievements.
  • Motivation: Measure of commitment, goal-orientation, diligence, willingness to learn and confidence in one’s own abilities.
  • Frustration tolerance: The extent to which the individual becomes discouraged or insecure as a result of failure.
  • Social competence: Measure of teamworking and sociability.
  • Emotional competence: Measure of critical abilities and interest in communication with others.
  • Self-confidence: Measure of self-assurance and presentation skills.
  • Perceived cognitive skills: Measure of self-assessed flexibility in thinking which is demonstrated in, for example, the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practice.
