The test set SAMINE Safety Assessment – Mines assesses the cognitive and psychomotor abilities needed for safe and productive working in the mining industry. The mining industry is a particularly hazardous working environment. Workers in the mining sector have a seven to ten times higher risk of a fatal accident at work than workers in other areas of industry. Accidents not only put individuals at risk but also represent an additional cost factor for the industry. It is for these reasons that managers often seek to reduce the risk of accidents through organizational measures and by selecting workers who are as safe and skilled as possible. Personal factors that can help to reduce accidents include experience, cognitive and psychomotor skills and safety-related personality characteristics. This test set has been developed to provide a specific tool for the personnel psychological testing of transport drivers and machine operators in the mining industry. It can be used in both the selection and the continuous monitoring of the suitability of mine workers in the context of manufacturing & safety assessments. It is also possible to select only the requirements relevant to one group and hence assess suitability for only one of the two areas.
